It’s called nut Spas because at that time, as a rule, harvest was finished and then hazelnuts that were allowed to be harvested.

In ancient times during Nut Spas fairs were held so the holiday was also called «Spas on Canvas» or «Holshovy Spas». It was believed that on this day the trade went particularly well.

The main festive dish is a loaf of new bread and nuts. Also on the table should be honey and apples. Guests and relatives were treated with pies and dishes with nuts.
The third Spas is also considered a period of harvesting apples, and apples collected during this period should be nutritious and stored for a long time.
Divination was also arranged on this holiday. In particular, the girls speculated on nuts and learned their fate. The first broken nut had to be eaten and its taste determined. If he is sweet – good luck in love affairs, bitter – disappointment.
