On December 29, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the title Hero of Ukraine to all members of the UIA flight PS 752 Tehran-Kyiv, which was shot down by the Iranian military on January 8, 2020. This is evidenced by presidential decree No. 600/2020, which is posted on the website of the President’s Office.
“For heroism and selfless actions shown in the line of duty, I decree: to award the title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Order of the Golden Star (posthumously) to the crew members of flight PS 752 of the Joint-Stock Company “Ukraine International Airlines” to aircraft commander Haponenko Volodymyr, flight attendant Lykhno Denis, senior flight attendant Matkov Ihor, flight attendant Mikitiuk Maria, aircraft commander – instructor pilot, Naumkin Oleksii, flight attendant Ovcharuk Valeria, flight attendant Sologub Yulia, senior flight attendant Statnik Kateryna, the second pilot Serhii Khomenko,” the text of the decree says.
The Ukrainian UIA Boeing-737 aircraft (flight PS 752) Tehran-Kyiv, was shot down by the Iranian military on the night of January 8, 2020. Onboard there were 167 passengers and 9 crew members.
