President creates council for freedom of speech, protection of journalists

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has created the Council for Freedom of Speech and Protection of Journalists.

This is stated in the relevant decree #808 dated November 6.

“To establish a Council for Freedom of Speech and Protection of Journalists as an advisory body under the President of Ukraine,” the document says.

The document states that the Council is being formed in order to ensure the observation of the constitutional right to freedom of speech, built effective interaction between state agencies, the media, civil institutions, in particular to prevent obstruction of legal professional activities of journalists.

The decree also approved the statute of the Council and its membership.

According to the decree public activist Vadym Mysky appointed as secretary of the council. Members of the council include famous lawyers, editors, journalists, producers and public activists, including Natalia Vlaschenko, Svitlana Ostapa, Serhiy Tomilenko, and others.

This decree comes into force from the day of its publication.
