Today, June 28th, Ukraine marks the 22nd anniversary of the entry into force of the country’s Constitution.

Constitution Day is a state holiday, and therefore June 2th in Ukraine is an official day off.

The main document of the country was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on the night of June 28, 1996 – the fifth year of the proclamation of Ukraine’s independence. After almost a day of continuous work in the session hall, people’s deputies nevertheless adopted the document by 315 votes.
It defined the strong presidential power, guaranteed the rights of private property, affirmed the new state symbols, the status of the Ukrainian language as the only state language, Crimea was recognized as an autonomous republic within Ukraine. At the same time, Ukraine was the last of the former Soviet republics, which adopted a new Constitution.
On the same day, the Constitution of Ukraine came into force. It provides for a strict procedure for changes: to change it, depending on the section, you need from 2/3 to 3/4 of the votes from the constitutional composition of parliament.

As reported by the «Journalist» US: the Ukrainian government must adopt amendments to the law on the Anticorruption Court.
