International Student’s Day is celebrated on November 17, but on January 25, Saint Tatiana’s Day is celebrated, which is also associated with the student’s day, reports UNIAN.

On January 25, 1755, Ivan Shuvalov, the protector of science and culture of the chamber-junker, presented for signature of Empress Elizaveta Petrovna a decree establishing the first Moscow University in the Russian Empire. The empress supported the idea of the scientist Mikhailo Lomonosov and Count Ivan Shuvalov about the creation of an educational institution and on the same day on January 12 (January 25 in a new style) signed a decree in 1775. In addition, the date – January 25 – was chosen for a reason. On January 25, the mother of Count Shuvalov, Tatiana Petrovna, had a name day. It is believed that from that moment on, Student’s Day and Tatiana’s Day became inseparable holidays.
In addition, Tsar Nicholas I issued a decree stating that January 25 should be celebrated not as the establishment of the first Moscow University, but the fact of signing the act of its foundation. Accordingly, a student holiday appeared.
On January 25, festive events and concerts are held in educational institutions on Tatiana’s Day. Students themselves organize parties, flash mobs.
