As the National Public Television and Radio Company of Ukraine (NSTU, Public) reports despite the total underfunding Ukrainian public broadcaster will conduct a national selection for Ukraine’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The qualifying will be held online.
According to the representatives of the Public, the competition is an element of cultural diplomacy and an excellent opportunity for Ukraine to once again assert itself in the world media in a positive context.
As of August 2nd, the European Broadcasting Union has already confirmed the participation of Ukraine in the competition on the basis of the obligation of the National Statistical Service to pay the necessary fees in the fall.
«Participation in the international competition assumes considerable expenses of the TV and radio company for holding the qualifying stage, as well as a mandatory contribution to the European Broadcasting Union, the organizer of the competition, for participating in the competition. In the conditions of underfunding the company, the National Technical University has no financial means to realize all the necessary expenses. That is why the Public for the first time refuses the TV version of the national selection and will hold the qualifying stage only online, because this will minimize the cost of production», the message of the television and radio company said.
Earlier The Journalist reported that in 2019 the Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Jerusalem.
