Ukraine celebrates the Day of Constitution on June 28. On this day, in 1996, at 9:18 am the Verkhovna Rada adopted and brought into force the Constitution of Ukraine. It is 23rd anniversary since the adoption of the Main Law, ZN.ua reports.
Prior to the adoption of the Constitution in 1996, the Constitution of the Ukrainian SSR of 1978 (with some changes) had been in force. The adoption of the Constitution was preceded by the Constitutional Treaty between the Parliament and the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma, signed on June 8, 1995.
The Constitution was ratified by the law No.254/96-ВР. The constitutional treaty was formally signed in mid-July 1996.
The solemn events with the participation of the authorities will be held today, including the ritual of laying flowers to the monument to Hetman Philip Orlik and Mykhailo Hrushevsky. It is also planned to lay flowers at the monuments to prominent figures of Ukraine in all districts of Kyiv.
In the Central Park of Culture and Recreation the “Victory of the Invictus” event will take place, as well as a walking tour “Volodymyrsky Way of Mykhailo Hrushevsky”.
