Today, August 23, Ukraine is celebrating Day of the National Flag.
National Flag Day was established by decree of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma in 2004. On August 23, 28 years ago, a group of deputies first time brought the national flag into the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada.
In 2009, President Viktor Yushchenko amended the decree “On the State Flag Day of Ukraine” and established the annual official flag-raising ceremony on August 23.
Today, the National Flag solemnly raised in most cities of the country.
In Kyiv, the ceremony will take place on Sophia Square and near the Kyiv City State Administration building.
