Ukraine consumes less electricity in 2020

Electricity consumption within the united energy system of Ukraine (net, excluding network losses) in 2020 amounted to 117.7 billion kWh. This is 2.1% less than in 2019 (120.2 billion kWh), according to the press service of Ukrenergo.

According to the company, the population of Ukraine increased electricity consumption in 2020 by 3.5% to 36.4 billion kWh (in 2019 – 35.2 billion kWh).

At the same time, the industry reduced electricity consumption by 3.8% to 49.2 billion kWh (in 2019 – 51.2 billion kWh).

Consumption by the machine-building industry (-14.7%), transport (-13.4%), utilities (-5.9%), metallurgy (-5.5%) and the fuel industry (-5%) decreased the most.

In 2020, the largest increase in power consumption in comparison with last year in percentage terms was demonstrated by the chemical and petrochemical industry (+ 10.6%), the production of building materials (+ 3%) and agricultural consumers (+ 2.8%).
