Today, January 22, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Unity. President Volodymyr Zelensky has congratulated Ukrainians in a video message and urged Ukrainians to be united.
This holiday was officially established in 1999, given the great political and historical importance of unity of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and Western Ukrainian People’s Republic, importance for the formation of a united Ukrainian state. In 2011, Day of Unity was combined with the Freedom Day, which was previously celebrated on November 22, and became “Day of Unity and Freedom of Ukraine.” However, in 2014, by presidential decree, the holiday was restored as the Day of Unity of Ukraine.
The President has addressed citizens in a video message.
“Dear Ukrainians! To be strong, we have to be united. To become united, we must be strong. Happy Day of Unity of Ukraine! Ukrainians should be first in everything. Yes, this is a dream. However, a common dream has always been a driving force for us. The force that we need so much right now,” Zelensky said.
