The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expresses its strong protest in connection with the illegal searches and detentions of the Crimean Tatars, committed today by the Russian occupation authorities in the Bakhchysarai district of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea. This was reported by the press service of the Foreign Ministry.

As for now, at least four citizens of Ukraine are illegally detained – Amet Suleymanov, Seytumer Seytumerov, Osman Seytumerov and Rustem Seitmemetov.

The Foreign Ministry emphasized that ignoring its international legal obligations as an occupying state Russia further perceives the factor of the indigenous people of Crimea as a threat to the occupation regime. It is outrageous that, in the framework of the policy of repression against the Crimean Tatars, Russia continues to abuse the anti-terrorism legislation, using trumped-up charges of terrorism to prosecute Crimean Tatar activists.

“Such actions sharply contradict the declarations of Moscow on the need for deescalation in relations between the two states,” the ministry said.

The Foreign Ministry calls on international partners to intensify political, economic and sanction pressure on the aggressor state with the aim of ending Russian human rights violations in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
