Ukraine’s population decrease by 140,000 since year start

For the H1 of 2020, the population of Ukraine decreased by 140,000 people, while mortality rate is lower than last year, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine reports.

According to the State Statistics Service, 287,010 people died in Ukraine during January-June of this year. Despite the coronavirus epidemic, which killed 2,116 people as of August 18, the death rate is lower than last year. So in the first half of 2019, 304,330 people died, which is 17,320 more than this year.

During the first two quarters of the year, 139,134 children were born in Ukraine, which is 10,000 less than last year. The migration growth was 7,598 people, while in 2019 this figure was at the level of 11,643.

Since the beginning of the year, the total population of the country has decreased by 140,000 people.

According to the State Statistics Committee, the population of Ukraine as of July 1 is 41,762,138 people.
