The large-scale annual Ukrainian-American Sea Breeze exercises started in the Mykolaiv, Kherson and Odesa oblasts on July 1, with the participation of 30 ships, 30 aircraft and more than 900 soldiers from different countries of the world, the Radio Svoboda reports.
“More than 1,500 tonnes of ship fuel has been prepared to ensure participation of ships, boats, auxiliary vessels of the Naval Forces of Ukraine in the exercises, as well as 400 tonnes of aviation kerosene and 50 tonnes of gasoline for air and ground equipment,” the deputy commander of the Ukrainian Navy for Logistics Rear Admiral Ihor Stupnytsky said.
He said that for the first time this year an American support ship USNS Yuma (T-EPF-8) arrived at the training camp in Odesa for the transportation of military units and equipment.
Foreign ships come with two-week supply of ammunition, fuel, food and water.
The field camp of the Sea Breeze land component was deployed near Odesa at the Black Sea training ground of the Military Academy, which will house land force Sea Breeze military personnel from eight countries, including Ukraine, the United States, Great Britain, Georgia and Moldova.
Ihor Stupnytsky also noted about lack of attention is paid to the logistics in Ukraine; since the country is in the state of war, attention is mostly paid to the configuration and provision of combat units.
“I believe that future officers, commanders of ships of the Naval Forces should have a good understanding of not just economic matters, but to be able to effectively control the processes, promptly resolve issues that arise. Therefore, we are currently working on the introduction of a logistics support students’ course in the curriculum of the Navy Institute,” Stupnitsky noted.
As The Journalist reported, Ukrainian Navy Commander said Ukraine ready to use force if situation at Sea of Azov escalates.
