In Kyiv, about half a million people were forced to take leave at their own expense because of the restrictive measures introduced to counteract the coronavirus. The Kyiv authorities reported they will not be able to support them financially without assistance provided by the state.

This was reported by the press service of the Kyiv City State Administration, citing the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko.

“According to our estimates, about half a million people in Kyiv took leave at their own expense. This is the category of people who live from salary to salary, and they live without income for the third week in a row. And, in the end, people will not have money at all. I raised this issue during a conference call with the President and the Prime Minister. And the President said that they are considering this issue. Today, without state financial assistance, it is impossible to solve it. Any single city’s budget cannot withstand such a burden,” Vitaliy Klitschko said.

“We hope to receive information in the coming days. Because people are waiting, and the situation become more and more tense. We must provide people with information about what should they expect,” he added.
