Health Minister of Ukraine Maksym Stepanov has named the main goals of introducing strict quarantine in Ukraine in period of January 8-24. These include the need to reduce human contact and reduce pressure on the healthcare system ahead of an outbreak of influenza.
According to him, during the New Year holidays there were a large number of contacts between people, which in ordinary life do not intersect, since the population had a fairly large mobility. Accordingly, the risk of infection increased. In this regard, the Ministry of Health predicts an increase in the incidence after the New Year holidays.
In addition, he stressed that influenza is a seasonal illness that has complications similar to coronavirus and that seriously ill patients also need hospitalization. In order to avoid a critical situation for the medical system, it was decided to introduce a lockdown in the country.
