Ukrainian workers abroad do not have to pay tax on foreign income

State Tax Service of Ukraine stated that recipients of remittance from first-degree relatives (children, spouses or parents) abroad should not pay remittance tax in Ukraine, since such transfers are not foreign income.

Thus, the Tax Service commented on the appeals of labor migrants regarding the fact that in some cases tax authorities interpret such transfers as foreign income subjected to 18% of income tax.

“Money transfers from abroad for first-degree relatives are not considered as foreign income, according to the Family Code of Ukraine,” the statement said.

The ministry noted that a resident of Ukraine, who receive income from abroad, must declare these income in Ukraine, UNIAN reports.

It is also specified that if the money were transferred to second-degree relatives or to unauthorized persons, this incomes to be taxed on a common basis.
