Today, June 11th, three years have passed since Ukrainians with biometric passports were granted the opportunity of visa-free travel to the countries of the European Union (except Ireland), as well as to Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, which are members of the Schengen zone but are not members of the EU. This was reported by the press service of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
“Since the beginning of the visa-free regime (from June 11, 2017 to April 2020), Ukrainians have made a total of almost 49 million trips to EU countries using both biometric and non-biometric documents,” border guards service reported.
Most often Ukrainians cross the border with Poland, as well as Hungary and Romania, and somewhat less with Slovakia.
According to SBGS staff, the passenger flow of Ukrainian citizens to EU countries is growing annually: in 2018 were registered 17.5 million trips, and in 2019 it amounted to 18.65 million.
In 2019-2020, Ukrainians expanded the list of European countries popular for visiting.
“If in 2017 such countries as Italy, Germany, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary enjoyed the greatest demand, then further this list was replenished with Austria, Greece, Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic,” the message reads.
