The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at its meeting held on May 13, adopted a resolution “On the partial suspension of the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on visa-free travel of citizens”, according to which from September 1, 2020, Ukrainians will be able to enter the Republic of Belarus only with foreign passports. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The changes will improve the protection of Ukrainian citizens, reduce the time required for each citizen to pass through the border, and resolve the issue of error-free verification of information on restrictions on crossing the border in accordance with instructions of authorized state bodies and at Interpol bases, since the absence of Latin information in the internal passport precludes automatic reading information from a document, as well as improving border control procedures to prevent cases of using fake passport of a citizen of Ukraine.

The ministry notes that the postponement of the new order until September 1 of this year will allow individuals to issue their passports on time.

Ukrainians living in Belarus and who do not plan to visit Ukraine in the near future can apply for passports at the Embassy of Ukraine in Minsk or the Consulate of Ukraine in Brest.

Ukrainians who will stay in Belarus without passports after September 1, 2020 will be allowed to enter Ukraine with a domestic passport.
