In Ternopil there is an expedition of the Research Center «Security Archaeological Service of Ukraine» (SASU) and the History Department of the Ternopil National Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Hnatyuk, who is studying the territory of Ternopil Castle. This is reported by the press office of the SASU and the site of the city of Ternopil «03252.ua».
Excavations, which started last year, continue near the Ternopil castle. In the field season of 2018, archaeologists have laid new pits and are exploring the territory.
Note that in 2017 as a result of field archaeological research conducted in the Ternopil castle, a western wall and a south-eastern corner of the castle were found. From the north and east, the castle was surrounded by deep moats. Their internal edges are revealed. On the north side (from the maternity hospital), a deep and wide natural ravine was used for this.
Also found are the remains of the stone fence of the 19th century castle courtyard.
Earlier «Journalist» reported that Ukrainian archaeologists are working in the 30 km from the line of demarcation.
