On July 4th, during the celebration of the National Police Day in Ukraine, the project «Swallow» was presented in Kyiv, which goal is to protect the rights of people with hearing impairment and to provide them with help. This is the joint work of the police of the Donetsk oblast and the public organization «Dovira Foundation» with the initiative of Angela Tymchenko and assistance of the United Nations Development Program.

In May this year, voluntary courses started in Mariupol, where police could learn sign language. After mastering the methods of non-verbal communication: mastery of sign language and dactyl (finger alphabet), law enforcers passed a practical exam, communicating directly with people with hearing impairment. After that 20 «swallows» became first juvenile police and criminal investigation operatives who can communicate with people with hearing impairments in Ukraine.

All of their knowledge and skills law enforcement officers demonstrated in Kyiv on Sofia Square during the celebration of the National Police Day.
