Ukrzaliznytsya (UZ) intend to purchase four more General Electric “Trident” diesel locomotives after receiving the money from the European Union. Locomotives will ply in the Azov direction to meet the Mariupol and Berdyansk transportation demand, Liga.net reports.

Deputy Infrastructure Minister Viktor Dovgan said that diesel locomotives can be purchased with funds allocate EUR 50 million to Ukraine by the EU to implement infrastructure projects in the Azov region, LIGA.net reports. Out of these, EUR 30 million will be redirected to the roads and EUR 20 million – to the railway. Ukrzaliznytsya plans to invest part of this money in the capital reconstruction of the Pologi-Kamysh Zarya-Volnovakha railway, and to buy four General Electric locomotives. Also, an alternative option of upgrading eight, or even ten 2TE116 diesel locomotives, may be considered.
Last February, General Electric Corporation signed a long-term USD 1 billion framework agreement with UZ for the supply of 225 new and upgraded 75 old locomotives for Ukraine’s railways. The last batch of locomotives arrived on February 1, 2019.
As The Journalist reported, an unknown man killed a driver of a foreign car in Kharkov and disappeared.
