The representative of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate, the Archbishop of Chernihiv and Nezhinsky Yevstratiy (Zorya) has reported that the transfer of St. Andrew’s Church to the Ecumenical Patriarchate is necessary for the interaction of the Ukrainian Church with Constantinople. He told this in the comment to journalists, UNIAN reported.
According to the press secretary of the UOC-KP, St. Andrew’s Church will become the Ecumenical Patriarchate embassy in Ukraine. The archbishop also noted that the decision to create a stavropegial structure (which will subordinate directly to the Ecumenical Patriarch) for interaction with the church, state and society was made by the Constantinople.
A spokesperson for the UOC-KP stressed that the center of the Roman Catholic Church, the Vatican, has the status of a state, so it can create its own embassies as a state, and Orthodox churches do not have such a state status and cannot create any embassies.
«But interaction is necessary, and, accordingly, we have reacted positively,» the archbishop added.
