Ivan Franko Prize winners were awarded in Drohobych

In Drohobych, Lviv oblast, ceremony of awarding laureates of Ivan Franko Prize in 2018 was held.

As reported on website International Foundation Ivan Franko, in the nomination «For significant achievements (achievement) in the field of Ukrainian studies», award was given to Head of Department of Philology of Ukrainian Catholic University Yaroslav Melnik.
«For significant achievements (achievement) in the field of social and humanitarian sciences», the prize was awarded to Johannes Remy, assistant professor of Eastern European history at University of Helsinki.

«Already today our prize has become a phenomenon that is new for Ukraine. My grandfather left us a great legacy. Now we must study it. The International Ivan Franko Prize is becoming more popular every year, it’s a big thing that opens the science to the world», said grandson of Ukrainian writer Roland Franko.

At the same time director of the Ivan Franko International Foundation Ihor Kurus noted that the activities and mission of the Foundation were supported by Ukrainian and foreign scientists, in particular America, Canada and European countries.
This year 21 research papers from 17 universities of four countries were submitted to the Prize Committee: Great Britain, Germany, Serbia and Ukraine. Scientists from 12 countries of the world: Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Croatia, Slovakia, Israel, Italy, USA and Ukraine were members of the nominating committees.
