Cases of measles have reached a record high in Europe. This is reported by the BBC, citing the data of the World Health Organization.

«Over 41 000 people have been infected with measles in the first 6 months of 2018, which resulted at least 37 deaths,» – the report said.

It is noted that the highest incidence rates are recorded in Ukraine and Serbia. About 25,000 people were affected with measles in Ukraine from the beginning of 2018.

«We call on all countries to immediately implement broad, context-appropriate measures to stop further spread of this disease. Good health for all starts with immunization, and as long as this disease is not eliminated we are failing to live up to our Sustainable Development Goal commitments,» – said Dr Zsuzsanna Jakab, WHO Regional Director for Europe.
