On May 24, in Kiev, near the Consulate of Russian Federation, dozens social activists, including writers, artists and journalists, conducted an artistic performance. The action «DAY ELEVEN OR BUNS FOR PUTIN» was organized to support the Ukrainian screenwriter and filmmaker Oleg Sentsov who was illegally detained in the Russian colony.
«I came to support this action, because I want to pay my tribute to it. I owe to those who once stood and fought for my freedom, for my release. I can not stay at home when similar political prisoners suffer. I came to support Oleg Sentsov, who chose such a sacrificial way to bring home Ukrainian political prisoners. We gathered near the Russian embassy, because Russia is blaming all these events. We also appeal to the international community to increase pressure on RF», – said former prisoner Igor Kozlovsky to interview with The Journalist.
On May 14, Oleg Sentsov announced an unlimited hunger strike demanding release all illegally detained Ukrainians on the territory of the Russian Federation. As the participants of the action noted, this is not a spontaneous action of the film director, and it is really dangerous for his health.
«It seems to me this man sacrificed everything he have, even his life. After all, he decided to go to the end. He does not feel well. Unlikely this story will ended soon, I think that he will be tormented in the hospital. But he knows what he’s doing», – said public activist Olga Vashchevskaya.
Activists brought with them "buns for Putin" and put in the middle of each of them human figures. The number of buns symbolized the number of Ukrainian citizens illegally kept in Russia.
«We want to demonstrate how Russia «devours» people. I am grateful to the Ukrainian writers who initiated such an action, which could come and express their public position. Thanks to all who joined us today», – political scientist Oleg Saakyan said this during the action.
After the end of the action, buns with human figures were left at the Consulate of Russia entrance.
«Today I saw many of my acquaintances here, they are people of art who are engaged in the cultural part of the war. This side of frontline must be strong, while combat action is in the east of our country. Ukrainians imprisoned in the territory of a foreign country need our support. We must do our best to bring them home», – underlined the writer, public activist and volunteer Elena Zadorozhnaya.
Also, some of activists held protest placards with #SaveSentsov #FreeSentsov inscriptions.
