The 4th International Internet Film Festival «Independent Star» was held in Kiev. The president and founder of Film Festival, Alena Yaremchuk, in an interview to "The Journalist" stated, that this festival was created ton support Ukrainian filmdirector and screenwriter Oleg Sentsov.
«The first festival was held in Spain, as a reaction to the arrest of Oleg Sentsov. Cinematographers from around the world decided to support him. In addition, the task of the «Independent Star» project is to look for independent people who are just starting their creative path. This is a social event. Every year our film festival changes its theme. In 2018 we chose the ecology, protection of the environment and animals protection», – said Yaremchuk.
The 4th International Internet Film Festival Independent Star received 600 works. Among them 180 best were participated in the competition. The winners were chosen in ten nominations: the best documentary, the best short film, cartoon, social video, advertising, the best non-traditional art, TV program, best actor and actress, and the best music video. During the event, organizers of the festival announced the collection of funds to support the family of Oleg Sentsov.
«I love my country and I worry about its citizens, especially for those who are far away and suffer. Therefore, we decided to support this project to help a good person, a Ukrainian, who really suffers. We must respond to others’ pain», – underlined Irina Seraya, head of ART VIVACE jewelry and supporter of film festival, during her interview with «The Journalist».
After the ceremony of awarding the winners, a concert was held with the participation of Ukrainian and foreign stars. In particular, the singer of the Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater for Children and Youth Alena Grebenyuk took part in the event to support Ukrainian filmdirector Oleg Sentsov, who announced an unlimited hunger strike in the Russian colony on May 14, demanding the release of all Ukrainians illegally detained in the Russian Federation.
