On the International Children’s Day in Kiev, the Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise (KFI) held an interdepartmental scientific and practical seminar on «Peculiarities of protecting children’s rights during psychological examination». The event was attended by the experts from KFI, representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, employees of the City Child Center and specialists of the National Academy of Internal Affairs. Within the framework of the scientific and practical seminar, the participants analyzed the aspects of protecting children rights in the conduct of forensic psychological examinations, as well as their practical application in the future.
«We dedicated this seminar to the psychology of the child and to the examination of child’s psychological state. This is relevant, since the rights of the child in the current conditions (including the events in eastern Ukraine) are unprotected», – explained Natalia Nestor, deputy Head of KFI for scientific work.
As experts noted during the meeting, one of the most important forensic psychological examinations in cases involving children, for example, in case of parents’ divorce, is the determination of the child’s future place of residence. In this case, the main task is to make an objective conclusion about which parent will be safer and more comfortable for the child to live with.
During the meeting, the director of KFI, Alexander Ruvin, spoke about the activities of the agency, its long history and research developments.
A representative of the Main Territorial Department of Justice in Kiev, Alexander Khimenko, also took part in the seminar. He told about the legal nationwide education project by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, «I have the right».
«This project operates in different directions. First, it is counteracting violence and ensuring the payment of alimony (this concerns the rights of the child)», – said Khimenko.
