In the Ministry of Health refuted rumors about the shortage of doctors in Ukraine and the unfavorable situation on the labor market health workers.
According to the press service of Ministry, in labor market of medical workers over the past 5 years there have been no significant changes in the number of physician vacancies: at the end of 2017 there were 22,635 vacant physician posts vacant, in 2016 – 21,837 positions, in 2015 – 21,707, in 2014 – 20689, in 2013 – 22522.
«First of all, the needs of patients on the ground should determine how many doctors and what exactly is needed in a particular medical institution. This process has already begun in primary health care facilities. When changes occur at all levels of care, local authorities will be able to see and assess the real needs of the population in health workers and implement a number of activities to attract them. For example, to create conditions for inviting doctors to populated areas – to provide them with official transport, housing, etc.», Ministry noted.
Ministry added that the statements on the number of medical workers who left Ukraine do not have reliable grounds, since official statistics on labor migration of health workers abroad are not maintained.
