Dmytro Prymachenko, co-founder of the Kyiv City Union of Veterans of ATO, visited the «Journalist» studio. A man, who without hesitation was one of the first to declare his desire to defend his Motherland during one of the most difficult times for Ukraine (2014), said that he motivated him and other brothers to voluntarily go to war.
«When the open aggression of Russia against Ukraine began in February 2014, this was a turning point for me, and I realized that we need to act. I swore an oath to Ukraine and my people, so I started looking for options on how to get involved in the defense of the homeland, went to the military commissariats. I had an irresistible desire to serve my state», recalled the veteran of the ATO.
Dmytro Prymachenko told journalist Iryna Khevpa how he joined the military operations in the east of Ukraine, in what condition the country was at the time when the military conflict began on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts, why the defenses of our state fell into decay, and thanks to what, nevertheless, we managed to give a worthy rebuff to the aggressor.
«I told my wife Yana by deceiving her that I received a writ. But I did it so that she would not worry, and that there was no talk about the fact that maybe you do not need to do this. My wife supported me. At first I was in the mobilization department of the military registration and enlistment office. At that time, the military registration and enlistment offices, I mean the system itself, were not capable. That is, then it was difficult to organize, collect qualitatively and quantitatively protection for the state. In March, mobilization was announced. When military operations in the east of our country became more active, they began to create battalions of territorial defense. I joined, and later in the 12th Kyiv Territorial Defense Battalion in June 2014, went to the Luhansk oblast. In our battalion there were people of different ages who at that time were between 20 and 50 years old and even older. They were representatives of different professions, from the driver and carpenter, to civil servants, doctors, educators and businessmen. All of them united the power of patriotism and love for their native land. It was this that rallied people, most of whom were without proper military training. But they were able to repel the prepared aggressor. We received all the combat experience in combat conditions», the military man said.
