The monument was erected on the occasion of the anniversary of the creation of the West Ukrainian People’s Republic (abbreviated to ZUNR). This is reported by the press service of the Lviv City Council.
The report notes that a three-meter bronze lion pictured on the coat of arms of ZUNR is installed on Gorodotskaya St. near the Lesia Ukrainka Lviv Drama Theater.
«A sculptural composition of the lion, whose figure was borrowed from the coat of arms of the ZUNR, and blocks of wild stone with a grapevine was established to the 100th anniversary of ZUNR in Lviv on October 24, as the symbol of the fact that from the drops of blood of Ukrainian fighters of November Chin and the Ukrainian Army of Galichina, spilled in the battles for ZUNR, the free Ukrainian state was born,» the message says.
It is known that the lion has cost UAH 3.5 million to the city authorities.
