President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree «On awarding honorary names to military units of the State Border Service of Ukraine». Corresponding document published on website of the Presidential Administration.
«In order to perpetuate memory and heroization of outstanding Ukrainian and political figures who have made a significant contribution to the development of the protection of border of Ukrainian state, protection of its national interests, as well as military and patriotic education of servicemen of State Border Service of Ukraine on heroic examples of the struggle for Ukrainian independence, taking into account the exemplary fulfillment of the tasks set, on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence», report said.
In particular, 3rd border detachment of Eastern Regional Department of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was given the name of Colonel Yevhen Pikus. Now this is «3rd frontier detachment of Hero of Ukraine Colonel Yevhen Pikus of Eastern Regional Department of State Border Service of Ukraine». In turn, 27th border detachment of Western regional department of State Border Service of Ukraine was given the name after Heroes of Carpathian Sich. Now it is called «27th border detachment named after Heroes of Carpathian Sich of Western regional department of State Border Service of Ukraine». And 31st border guard detachment of Western regional department of State Border Service of Ukraine was given the name of General-Coroner Oleksandr Pilkevich – now it is «31st border detachment named after General-Coroner Oleksandr Pilkevich of Western regional department of State Border Service of Ukraine».
Decree comes into force from the date of its publication.
