In the city of Mykolaiv Animal Protection Center earns money by killing dogs. Such a thought in an interview with The Journalist was expressed by a local volunteer and zoo-guard Olena Vengerova.
«With the arrival of the new director for a communal enterprise (CE) «Animal Protection Center», which operates in the city of Mykolaiv, Mr. Oleksandr Golobrodskiy, Animal Protection Center does not deal with treatment, assistance and rescue of animals that were found on the streets. Now in CP is engaged in reducing their number in city by euthanasia (sleep, interruption of animal life, with the introduction of a drug that terminates vital functions – Ed.), which was held on July 14. Part of staff even did not know that such a procedure will be conducted. It was done at night, over the weekends. After euthanasia animals were burned. Subsequently, people found outside CP remains of animals that they did not have time to burn. So there was no euthanasia – there was killing of animals. Veterinarians believe that such an amount of animals cannot be put to sleep first, and then burned within a day and a half, as the director of CP Golobrodskiy assures», volunteer said, commenting on the situation.
According to Olena Vengerova, in this barbaric way about a hundred animals were killed, along with puppies.
«Center for the protection of animals» – this is only a name, this organization no longer protects animals. There are incomprehensible actions. Therefore, volunteers will have to be on duty near the CP. This kind of watch of people who are not indifferent lasts more than a month. There is a volunteer magazine, where movement of all cars of enterprise is recorded. They go here and there from morning till evening somewhere. Almost no new animals are brought to the center. And what organization says on its pages about blocking their work is an outright lie and slander. We have a corresponding video, which shows the worker of CP saying that no one interferes their work», said zoologist.
She says that after changing leadership on the CP «Animal Protection Center» does not work properly: instead of saving animals, they are killed mercilessly, and under guise of noble actions and saving budgetary funds, enterprise laundered money using a financially expensive euthanasia procedure.
«There used to be an approved program for dealing with animals. This program was based on method of sterilization of stray animals. After manual was changed, no new program was approved. In addition, report from Department of Housing and Ecology and old program also did not exist. Although after completion of old program, a full report of Department of Housing and Utilities and leadership of CP should be held on the implementation of previously approved actions, on the implementation of which the two agencies work together. After such a report, local deputies take a new program at the session. In the end, it turned out that old program was over, there was no report, and new program was not approved. However, during this period new director, Golobrodskiy, said that he considered sterilization of animals’ illegal, that’s why company decided to put animals to sleep. At the same time, without informing about such a decision in advance. Workers from the «old team» did not know anything about it, they were expelled from work, and they were not allowed to go out to treat sick dogs. The fact that on the weekend (July 14-15) in the city was a mass killing of dogs, these employees found out by going to work on Monday, July 16», said the local activist.
In addition, as the woman noted, at the moment there are 22 dogs that are looking for a new home on the territory of the «Center for Animal Protection»
«It is important that «new team» of Oleksandr Golobrodskiy, who came to work for CP, assures that method of work of their predecessors, who did sterilization of animals, was illegal, and maintenance of animals was expensive (expensive, high-quality fodder, treatment of four-pronged animals). Therefore new director decided to conduct euthanasia, arguing his actions by saving local budget. This is despite the fact that everyone knows that such manipulations are financially expensive. At the moment, the situation has developed in such a way that they began to buy cheap food, from which many animals died within 2 weeks. Volunteers tried to help somehow, negotiate with leadership, so that those dogs could be taken to hospital. Sometimes it was possible to do it, but with great difficulties. With arrival of new director, volunteers no longer have access to animals. As we later learned, in many dogs, veterinarians found pancreatitis (inflammation of pancreas – ed). At the moment, the animals are sitting in cages, nobody cures them. For three days dog can sit in its own vomit, and no one comes to him. Workers do not care. Puppies that were there a week ago began to mass die and get sick; we pulled them out and treated, unfortunately, little survived. Volunteers who were near the CP, observed this horror», said Olena Vengerova.
Also, according to her conviction, now the care for animals has worsened, and people who want to save poor and take home face many problems.
«Ordinary people who want to take animal home, will have to go through 7 circles of hell: go to office, bring some information, explain something, leave your passport details. And it’s not a fact that animal will be given to them. The procedure can last for weeks», volunteer noted.
According to woman, leadership of CP has arbitrarily, without the appropriate decision of the local authorities, made «Animal Protection Center» a regime facility, which means that there is no information on activities of the enterprise, but there is constant slander and threats against volunteers of animal protection.
«When the team of Golobrodskyi came, they decided that this KP should become a mode object. According to the law, in order for a utility company to become a regulated facility, such a decision must be taken by city council, that is, local deputies must vote for it. It was not. However, when volunteers tried to get to «Animal Protection Center», a guard came out who said that this was a regime facility. At the same time, guards did not show any documents that would confirm such information», volunteer summed up results.
