World Congress of Ukrainians: Action «Light a Candle of Memory» is the unity of Ukrainians all over the world (VIDEO)

This year, various events dedicated to 85th anniversary of memory of victims of Holodomor are taking place in Ukraine and around the world. Informational 85-days campaign has begun on 1 September.

From November 12 to November 23, «Wandering» performance from the National Museum «Memorial to the Victims of the Holodomor» takes place every day in Kiev. At the same time, from November 20 to December 10, everyone in Metropolitan Gallery Lavra will be able to attend the interactive exhibition «Gareth Jones. A diary». This exposition is dedicated to a British journalist who was among the first to write the truth about Holodomor in Ukraine. On November 22-24 in Kyiv in Mystetskiy arsenal International Forum «Ukraine remembers. The world recognizes» will take place as well as the action «Light a candle of memory».

As the director of the representative office of World Congress of Ukrainians, Serhii Kasyanchuk, stressed, Ukrainian diaspora has been working for many years to ensure that not only in Ukraine, but throughout the world, they know, remember and honor the memory of the victims of Holodomor of 1932-1933.

«Diaspora has been working on this issue for many decades. Therefore, every year we initiate new actions that would spread information about Holodomor and its recognition as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people. This year, World Congress of Ukrainians, together with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, as well as National Museum of Memorial to Victims of Holodomor, offered to hold the action «Light a Candle of Memory». It began on September 1, 2018 and runs daily until November 24, the day of national commemoration of the 85th anniversary of Holodomor. This happens in different cities both in Ukraine and abroad, on different continents. Thus, we emphasize the unity of Ukrainians around the world. It is very important to tell children about it and attract them to such events, because there were many children among the victims of Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933», said a representative of the World Congress of Ukrainians.
