Flu epidemic expected in Ukraine in second half of November

Experts have warn about a surge of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections in Ukraine in the second half of November this year; the peak is expected in early December. This was announced by the Director General of the Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine Volodymyr Kurpita.

According to the Center for Public Health of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, during the current week, 143 thousand Ukrainians fell ill with flu and other respiratory virus infections (ORVI), 71% of them were children aged under 17 year. But at the same time, it is emphasized that the doctors still do not register a rise in the incidence of a disease, and the epidemic threshold for the incidence of influenza and ORVI has not been exceeded in any of the Oblasts of Ukraine.
The ministry warns that more than 13 million Ukrainians are at risk of getting flu this season.
«There are about 13.5 million Ukrainians at risk, 30% of them have a high chance of getting infected or getting flu complications,» – the report says.
