The head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Volodymyr Vyatrovych, intends to carry out research work, the results of which would make it possible to change the founding dates of some Ukrainian cities. The purpose of such events, he called the need to eliminate the stratum of the Russian imperial past, reports Hromadske.
Vyatrovych said that the conduct of de-communization in Ukraine showed the presence of a layer of the Russian imperial past, which the Russian Federation is currently using to promote the statements that “there have never been Ukrainians and all the cities in the south appeared only because the Russian Empire appeared there”.
Vyatrovch noted that some cities have a longer history than is commonly believed and stressed that the essence of his proposal is not to cross out the page of history about the establishment of settlements by the empresses or kings, but about conducting a comprehensive study.
Earlier, the “Journalist” reported that Vyatrovych believes that the memory of the Holodomor is an element of national identity that unites Ukrainians around the world.
