President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the law, which amends Article 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on strengthening criminal liability for falsification of medicines and their distribution.
According to the press service of the head of state, the document amends article 321-1 (falsification of medicines and their distribution) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, according to which the manufacture, purchase, transportation, transfer, storage for the purpose of marketing or sale of obviously falsified drugs the applicable sentence is deprivation of liberty for a term from five to eight years (from three to five years previously).
The law also strengthens the responsibility for officials whose activities are directly related to distribution of medicines; for a medical or pharmaceutical worker, or by using information systems, in particular the Internet/ The law provides deprivation of liberty for a term from 8 to 10 years with confiscation of property.
In case the actions referred to Paragraph 1.2 of Article 321-1 resulted in death of a person or in other grave consequences, or committed on an especially large scale, they are punishable by deprivation of liberty for a term from 10 to 15 years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property (from 8 to 10 years or life imprisonment with confiscation of property, previously).
The law will enter into force the next day following the day of its publication.
