Today, September 5, under the walls of the Verkhovna Rada (VR), zoo-activists urged the government to urgently adopt bill No. 6598, which provides for a toughening of criminal liability for cruel treatment of animals. This is reported by the publication Ukrainiskiy Interes.
The main requirement of those not indifferent to fate of animals was inclusion of bill for consideration in agenda and its adoption in first reading. It is known that in summer deputies did not do this.
«The document proposes to introduce a minimum punishment for animal killers – imprisonment for a period of two to three years. Also, bill completely prohibits euthanasia as a method of regulating number of homeless and wild animals. The ban will also apply to begging with animals», report said.
During break in work of VR zoo advocates attracted attention of the government by chanting: «Deputies, protect animals».
