The Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said that the Ministry of Health during the quarantine period has increased the number of laboratoriesfor COVID-19 testing from 4 to 69. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Health.
“When we introduced quarantine in mid-March, there were 3 or 4 laboratories that could perform PCR testing in Ukraine. Today this figure totals 69 laboratories. This also concerned people who worked here and were not ready for such a challenge as coronavirus. Now we have 69 laboratories, and we are constantly expanding this figure and attracting other laboratories, buying equipment,” Stepanov said.
Stepanov noted that the last time equipment was purchased for laboratory centers, which are part of the Ministry of Health, was the year 2009.
“This is about testing equipment. And it was actually inoperative. We modernized this equipment, involved specialists who became laboratory assistants and carried out tests. When I came to the position, we did 500-600 tests a day. Today this figure is 12,000, and we are constantly increasing this number,” Stepanov said.
