“The Ministry of Environment and Ukraine, together with a large group of scientists, has developed an action plan for the conservation of the black stork,” said Vasyl Poluyko, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine.

It is reported by the Ministry of Nature.

It should be noted that the black stork was recently one of the least studied species of birds in Ukraine due to its secret lifestyle.

“According to scientists, today there is a real threat of a significant reduction in the number of the species as a result of several reasons. First of all, it is a method of forestry, which in practice does not provide for the preservation of nesting sites for rare species, among them the black stork, even in the breeding season. In addition, the increasing anthropogenic load on forests (picking mushrooms and berries), especially at the height of the nesting period, has a negative impact. Reducing the number of old trees on which the stork can build nests does not contribute to the development of the species,” explains the deputy minister.
