A new military unit of the National Guard of Ukraine will be formed in Uzhhorod to fulfill the tasks of protecting public order and strengthening security in the region. The number of the unit will be more than half a thousand servicemen. The Journalist reported with reference to the press center.
Negotiations have now been held with representatives of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration and Uzhhgorod City Council regarding the possible location of the unit. The features of logistics support and infrastructure development of the future battalion deployment site are also being studied.
According to the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, Colonel-General Mykola Balan, the creation of a separate unit in Uzhhorod is due to the geographical peculiarity of this region and the large volume of law enforcement tasks that are entrusted to the National Guards and police.
“Zakarpattia region borders four countries. Here, together with the National Police, we carry out a number of tasks to make the population of this region feel safe. Therefore, the new unit of the National Guard will only strengthen the battalion of the 2nd Galician brigade of the National Guard and the local police already in Uzhhorod, since the safety of citizens remains our priority,” Colonel-General Balan noted.
The new unit will be entrusted with the tasks of protecting public order in the cities and towns of the Zakarpattia region, operational and preventive development of border settlements, escorting the defendants.
