Opera singer Ivan Ponomarenko dies

On April 11 the heart of 73-year old Ivan Ponomarenko, National Opera of Ukraine soloist, an outstanding Ukrainian singer, People’s Artist of Ukraine, has stopped.

Ivan Ponomarenko during his creative life performed more than thirty parties in the classical and modern repertoire: Mazepa, Yevgeniy Onegin, Don Juan in the same operas by Tchaikovsky, V.-A. Mozart, Gryaznoy in “The Tsar’s Bride” by N. Rimsky-Korsakov, Schelkalov in “Boris Godunov” by M. Mussorgsky, Scarpia in “Tosca” by J. Puccini, Alfio in “Country Honor” by P. Mascagni, as well as complex and dramatic parts Verdi repertoire: Germont, Rigoletto, Nabucco, Amonasro, Renato in Kyiv and foreign productions of operas Rigoletto, Nabucco, Aida, Masquerade Ball.

Interesting fact Ivan Ponomarenko is the first Ukrainian singer who performed in the Republic of South Africa. In the early 1990s, in Johannesburg and Pretoria, he performed the leading baritone parts in Verdi’s operas Rigoletto and Aida, and Mascagni in Rural Honor.

The farewell ceremony to the singer will take place on April 13 in the lobby of the theater o10-30. At 12-00, the funeral service will be held in Ilinsky church.
