President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has supported the appeal on conferring the honorary title of Righteous Among the Nations to Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky.
The head of state said this at a joint press conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda in Auschwitz.
“I cannot but mention the Sheptytsky family, which not only saved more than 160 Jews, but also openly demanded the Nazi leaders to stop their persecution. Recently, the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv, Moshe Reuven Asman, asked the Holocaust Remembrance Center “Yad Vashem” to confer the honorary title of Righteous Among the Nations to Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytsky. I join this appeal for the restoration of historical justice,” the president said.
As The Journalist reported, Zelensky took part in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp in Poland.
