Libyan navy said it rescued147 illegal migrants in two operations off the west coast of the country. All saved were transferred to reception centers, Xinhua reports.
The first rescue operation conducted 68 miles off the coast of the city of Zawiya, located 45 km from the Libyan capital Tripoli.
During this operation, 96 illegal migrants were rescued, including 16 women and four children.
During the second operation, which unfolded 50 miles (80 km – ed.) off the city of Homs, 51 people were rescued.
At first, the illegal immigrants refused to leave the boat, and even threatened to blow it up. However, after negotiations they agreed to move on board of the Libyan navy vessel.
As The Journalist reported, the migrants seized the ship, whose crew members rescued them.
