18 EU member states urged the entire European Union to be ready to act in support of Ukraine if Russia tries to intervene in presidential and parliamentary elections.
This is stated in the internal discussion document, which is not officially made public, reports Radio Svoboda.
The document was signed by representatives of Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Finland, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
The document says that the European Union will not allow "fatigue from the EU in Ukraine and fatigue from Ukraine in the EU."
The document will be discussed at a meeting of EU foreign ministers on February 18, the subject of which will be the political situation in Ukraine on the eve of the elections.
The election, the document says, will be “a test for Ukraine, for its democracy, reforms, sustainability and orientation.”
"In the main interests of the EU-to keep Ukraine on the European path of reform and continue to support it," the authors note.
It is noted that Moscow will try to influence the elections in Ukraine, supporting candidates desirable for it, carrying out cyber-attacks and misinformation campaigns.
As reported by “Journalist”, the OSCE said that banning Russians from observing elections is contrary to Ukraine’s obligations.
