The Pro-Russian Socialist Party of the Republic of Moldova, supporting the country’s president Igor Dodon, won the elections to the Moldovan parliament held on February 24.
This was reported after final counting of votes, which were announced on March 3 by the Chairman of the Central Election Commission, Alina Russu, TASS reports.
Socialists will receive 35 mandates in the 101-seat parliament. They are followed by the ruling Democratic Party of Moldova with 30 mandates, and the pro-European opposition bloc Acum (Now) in third place with 26 mandates.
Sor Party (lead by the businessman and mayor of the city of Orhei, Ilan Sor) is fourth with a result of 7 mandates, independent deputies will receive three mandates. The other parties could not overcome the 6% electoral barrier.
The Constitutional Court should approve the results of the parliamentary elections, said the chairman of the CEC.
The opposition has already announced that it will try to challenge the results in individual districts. She accused the authorities of using administrative resources, bribing voters and other violations.
