Kyiv Pechersky District Court granted the petition of the military prosecutors to keep the former Head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Volodymyr Zamana in custody.
The court made such a decision tonight, February 26, Radio Liberty informs.
“To satisfy petition of the prosecutor to apply a preventive measure in the form of detention in relation to the suspect Zamana. Apply a measure of restraint in the form of detention in custody until March 27, 2019,” said the resolution, which was announced by judge Vyacheslav Pidpaliy.
The judge also added that the decision can be appealed within five days in the Kyiv Court of Appeal.
Zaman himself said that his “prosecution” is an attempt to show visibility of the struggle against enemies on the eve of presidential election. He added that he did not intend to surrender.
“The authorities want to show that they works, fight, including such methods,” said Zamana.
He also added that he was never called in for questioning.
As The Journalist reported, ex-chief of Ukraine’s General Staff disbanded anti-aircraft missile divisions and military air force units, depriving Ukraine of the air defense system.
