A northern smooth whale with a calf was observed off the coast of the state of Florida – this is the first for two seasons of observing a cub of a species numbering only 450 individuals, reports NPR.
The season of observations in the years 2017-2018 was the first when the scientists failed to notice a single new whale cub. However, at the end of December 2018, observers at Marine Research Institute noticed a female, seen several days earlier, with an unknown calf at the mouth of the St. Johns River in the north of the US state of Florida.
