On January 2, three militants’ accomplices surrendered to the Kramatorsk police department. This was reported by the press service of the National Police of the Donetsk oblast.
The source reports that the three men were on duty at terrorists’ checkpoints and were tired of hiding their illegal past.
“A 43-year-old local resident, who was in the ranks of the so-called ‘DPR’ from May to June 2014 and illegally carried out the check-up regime at one of the Kramatorsk checkpoint, turned to the police. As well as two brothers, 29 and 36 years old, who joined the ranks of an illegal armed group in April 2014 and served in the checkpoints of their city,” the statement reads.
The report notes that after the Kramatorsk was liberated in July 2014, all three men remained in the city and carefully concealed their past connection with the militants. They learned about the possibility of exemption from punishment from Internet resources and decided to voluntarily contact the police.
The police recalled that Part 6 of Article 260 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine guarantees to members of illegal armed groups exemption from criminal liability in the case of voluntary surrender to law enforcement agencies.
The police checks the activities of ex-mercenaries. If the information about their innocence to serious crimes to be proved, men will be officially exempted from criminal liability.
As The Journalist reported, near Zhytomyr a man was walking on the streets with an automatic gun, which he purchased via Internet.
