French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for an exchange of hostages in Donbas and the release of political prisoners by the end of the year.
This is stated in a statement by the spokesman for the German government, Stefan Seibert, on behalf of the leaders of France and Germany after their meeting with President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in Paris on November 11 posted on the website of the German government.
«They strongly supported the exchange of hostages and the release of political prisoners by the end of this year», the statement says.
Macron and Merkel also welcomed extension by Verkhovna Rada of the law «On the special order of local self-government in certain districts of Donetsk and Luhansk regions» until December 31, 2019.
«With regard to the question of the start of the United Nations mission (peacekeepers-ed.), they referred this question to the foreign ministers for further political exchanges», the statement said.
As The «Journalist» reported, the issue of pseudo-elections in the Donbas will be considered by the OSCE Permanent Council and the Council of Ministers of the EU.
