A powerful 6.8-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the area of the island of Jan Mayen between the Greenland and Norwegian seas. This was reported by the US Geological Survey.
As it became known, the earthquake occurred in the Arctic Ocean, some 119 km to the north-west of the Norwegian island of Jan Mayen, which is located on the Greenland and Norwegian seas border. The center was 10 km deep.
The tsunami warning was not announced.
